Story
Founded by sisters Christine & Elizabeth, MUKAKASA is a lifestyle universe that encapsulates heritage, culture, and craft. Danish design made in Uganda is about mixing Scandinavian design aesthetics and a sense of purpose with African lively & vibrant heritage, culture & craftsmanship.
“MUKAKASA means “truly mine”, and as the name our Grandparents gave their firstborn son it has a deep rooted declaration of love.”
Born to Ugandan father & Danish mother, the sisters have grown up with the two cultures and learned how to embrace and celebrate both the differences and similarities. They are the product of the fusing of the two cultures and the exciting juxtaposition it creates.
Designed in our Amsterdam Studio and crafted by local artisans and craftspeople in Uganda, our products celebrate ancient traditions handed down through generations creating future heirlooms to be cherished, used and admired for generations to come.

Our Launch at Maison & Objet January 18-22, 2024. The 1st collection is a combination of function and beauty. It is designed to create art using your everyday items. With the pottery collection, you can create little art pieces by stacking the items in custom compositions.

MUKAKASA made its debut at 3 Days of Design with a collection shaped by earth, guided by hands, and transformed by fire.
Set against the sculptural backdrop of the Lapidarium of Kings in Copenhagen, the exhibition introduced handcrafted vessels made from Ugandan clay - all-natural, toxin-free, and grounded in ancestral craft.
From stackable forms to our signature black pottery, each piece celebrates the power of material, touch, and transformation.

This is just the first chapter in a story of conscious living - where heritage meets form, and beauty begins at the source.
